In the Line of Duty

Chris Backus became an officer with the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) in the 90s.

He wanted to help people; to make a difference in their lives.

The work was rewarding, but challenging.

Eventually, Backus made his way to a career as a strategic advisor for the United Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, Africa, specializing in crisis negotiations including kidnappings and hostage situations.

As you can imagine, Backus says, “over the 20 year period I was exposed to a lot of trauma, human suffering and death.”

PTSD Diagnosis – In The Line of Duty

After a diagnosis of line-of-duty-related PTSD a decade ago, Backus entered a dark period in his life.

Battling personal demons as well as doctors, he struggled to find something that worked to calm his symptoms: sleeplessness, anxiety, depression and fatigue.

With prescriptions for both anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications, his symptoms were quieted temporarily, but soon the side-effects became unbearable.

Finding CBD Products

“I started taking CBD as a treatment approximately three years ago,” Backus says.

Soon after, he was able to quit taking all of his prescription medication.

With such dramatic and unexpected results, Backus was ecstatic and became a near-overnight advocate for CBD-based products.

CBD + PTSD

The opioid crisis, as well as the mental health movement, has forced us to reconsider how we treat all types of pain (physical, mental, and emotional).

In the process, CBD has begun to take its rightful place as a valid and effective treatment option in both the medical and mental health fields.

With so many people, including veterans, emergency service workers, and police officers suffering from PTSD, CBD’s popularity has come just in time.

According to the Veteran’s Association (VA), “Cannabidiol (CBD) alleviates pain, diminishes inflammation, enhances mood, and is an effective remedy for a variety of other ailments, both physical and mental.

CBD can probably be an alternative for opioids for military veterans with PTSD and related depressive symptoms.. [and] has already shown positive results for these symptoms.”

Like Backus, many people who were previously prescribed a whole host of medications for PTSD or similar disorders are discovering CBD and never turning back.

Other Benefits of CBD

Because CBD is non-psychoactive, considerably more research has been conducted on its therapeutic benefits than on its controversial sister, THC.

Ailments such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, epilepsy, and some sleep disorders have shown positive results in several studies.

Any internet search for CBD will result in an impressive list of people advocating for its use.

Do your research and find what works for you.

After the long battle to regain his health ended, Backus founded WKND! Wellness, a lifestyle-based hemp and CBD company with a mission to deliver high-quality wellness products to their customers.

Now his goal is to spread awareness and encourage others to try CBD. WKND! Wellness’ online retail store currently offers four high-quality hemp-derived product lines, including CBD soft gel capsules, CBD liquid tinctures, CBD cooling gel, and CBD body butter.

Give them a try; perhaps the relief you’ve so desperately been searching for is at your fingertips right this moment.

Chris Backus’ Life Today

Of course, not everyone will experience the extreme symptoms Chris Backus did; some people simply need help sleeping or want to improve their mood—just two of the things CBD has been shown to help with.

Backus is the perfect example of how extraordinary the benefits of CBD can be: “Today I have completely discontinued all of my prescription medications using only daily CBD dosages,” he says.
